Mid-foot Pain

MIDFOOT PAIN

A natural approach – no orthotics, no surgery, no medication

What is Midfoot Pain?

“The midfoot consists of three cunieform bones, cuboid and the navicular bones as well as surrounding soft tissue i.e: muscles and ligaments. One must always exclude navicular stress fractures however midtarsal joint sprain, tibialis posterior tendonitis, extensor tendinitis and joint degeneration are all common causes of midfoot pain.”

What causes Midfoot Pain?

A single traumatic injury must always be excluded. However, most midfoot pain is associated with poor underlying foot posture. Whether the foot is excessively supinated (high arched) or pronated (low arched) these mis-aligned joints (subluxations) put stress on the midfoot, eventually resulting in pain. If the poor posture is undetected the mis-aligned joints can cause mid-foot degeneration.

How to fix Midfoot Pain naturally

A simple exercise you can do is to roll your feet over a tennis ball or rolling pin while sitting.  Allow your feet to 'drape' over the curved surface.  This will have the effect of gently opening the jammed joint spaces in the midfoot region.  Improving your foot posture by addressing the mis-aligned joints through joint mobilisation and corrective exercises will unload the midfoot and also allow symptoms to subside.  This ultimately will strengthen your feet and prevent future problems.  The majority of these cases can be resolved naturally without surgery.

However, if midfoot pain is still troubling you, call to make an appointment with one of our podiatrists at the Foot Posture Centre to see if your problem can be fixed before mid-foot degeneration sets in.  Call Ivanhoe on 9499 2006 or Forest Hill on 9877 0056 for your appointment.
