FLAT FEET

A natural approach – no orthotics, no surgery, no medication

What are Flat Feet?

Flat feet are a very common presentation among all age groups. It is where the arch of the foot has completely collapsed and there is no visible arch height. On an x-ray you will commonly see significant lowering of the midfoot bones (navicular, cuneiform) and the talus in the rearfoot will often be tilted downward.”

What causes Flat Feet?

The cause of flat feet is often of a genetic nature, however trauma and overuse issues over a sustained period of time can also cause flat feet.

Foot pain resolved when flat feet are fixed naturally

The before image shows a collapsed medial arch (flat feet) resulting in neuroma pain in the ball of the foot. The after image shows the same foot where the flat feet have been fixed and corrected naturally.  This resulted in resolution of the neuroma pain and a strengthening of the ankles. NB: the flatter arch shows more shadowing under the arch while the corrected foot in the 'after' view has less shadow as more light reaches the underside of the foot.

Is Flat Feet Painful?

Having Flat Feet does not mean that you will have pain. However, there is a higher chance that foot pain and leg pain will develop as activity and age increase.

How long will it take to fix Flat Feet?

Structural correction of flat feet can take between 3-18 months. Not all flat feet cases can be corrected, however many can be.

How to fix Flat Feet naturally

Foot Posture Centre Melbourne podiatrists specialise in fixing flat feet and relieving the pain that can occur with it. Fixing flat feet would initially involve determining which of the joints of the foot are misaligned, the degree of movement available and then using foot mobilisation/manipulation to correct the misaligned joints. Corrective exercises are used in conjunction with foot mobilisation to strengthen and restore the arch. No surgery or medication is required here.

To determine whether your flat feet can be corrected naturally without surgery or medication, call our nearest office to discuss your case.  We can then determine if a comprehensive initial assessment will be required.
