HEEL SPURS

A natural approach – no orthotics, no surgery, no medication

What are Heel Spurs?

Heel spurs specifically relate to the bony spurs (extra bony growth) that form at the base of the heel. It is a ‘spike’ of bone that grows from the base of the heel.”

What causes Heel Spurs?

It is widely accepted now that the presence of this bony growth is not the cause of heel pain, but rather an effect of an underlying biomechanical foot problem where the soft tissue structures that are attached to the heel bone are pulling excessively on that area. At some point down the track, heel pain may develop, but the bony heel spur is not the cause of the heel pain.

How to fix Heel Spurs naturally

The pain that is associated with heel spurs is fixed by treating the underlying biomechanical problem with a person’s foot and leg posture. A common problem often seen in this case are misaligned joints within the foot and ankle and they include; talus, navicular, cuneiforms, cuboid and restricted movement through the ankle complex. Corrective exercises and postural awareness of a persons gait are also critical factors that will need to be addressed. Resolving the pain associated with chronic heel spur syndrome does vary from case to case. Normally patients start to experience symptomatic relief in the first 4 weeks of treatment. More complex cases can take up to six months. The only way to physically remove bony heel spurs is through surgical intervention, but this will not guarantee resolution of the heel pain because the underlying cause has not been addressed. As mentioned earlier the underlying cause is the dysfunctional biomechanical foot and leg issue.
